Since it’s inception in 2005, five HIRE Committee Employer Luncheons have been hosted by Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall. These Employer luncheons are hosted on a quarterly basis with an annual event awarding Employer of the Year, Employee of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year.

The next Harvey L. Hall HIRE Committee Luncheon will be held on May 27th, 2010. The committee is accepting nominations now for Employer of the Year, Employee of the Year, and Humanitarian of the Year. Deadline to submit nominations is May 7th, 2010.

Employer of the Year Award Criteria

  • Willingness to employ persons with disabilities
  • Employing at least one person with a disability during 2007/2008
  • Active recruitment / hiring practices
  • Sensitization of other employees
  • Assimilation, retention, and promotion of persons with disabilities
  • Promoting the concept of employment of persons with disabilities
  • Special orientation of training procedures
  • Nominate a company or organization for Employer of the Year

Employee of the Year Award Criteria

  • Has a documented disability and demonstrates positive adjustment to disability
  • Stable employment (full or part time); has been successfully employed for a minimum of 1 year
  • Other than necessary and reasonable accommodations, does not expect special treatment
  • Positive interpersonal relationships
  • Good attendance and demonstrates good job safety practices
  • Nominate someone for Employee of the Year

Humanitarian Award Criteria

An organization, agency, business or individual (within HIRE' s geographic area) that has championed the cause of equal opportunity and independence for a person or persons with disabilities by:
